Sainik School Reservation: To be eligible for seats to be assigned through AISSAC E-Counselling in any of the current or new Sainik Schools, candidates must register through the official e-counselling online portal.
Sainik School Reservation: Seat Allocation/ Seat Matrix
The seat allotment for the Sainik Schools and New Sainik Schools will be based on the category-wise intake capacity known as the seat matrix. The Seat Matrix is available on the official website of AISSAC E-Counselling. It lists available seats in all 33 Sainik Schools and 18 New Sainik Schools.
The seat allocation to a candidate for the school of their top preference is based on different factors:
- The candidate’s Domicile, either in their Home State (HS) or Other State (OS).
- The candidate’s Gender (Boys/Girls) and category (GEN, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, DEF).
- The candidate’s All India Rank in the corresponding rank list (s).
- The candidate’s preferred order for the schools they choose.
- The number of seats in the various seat categories and quotas that the candidate is qualified for.

Reservation requirements Sainik School
The Sainik School reservation criteria for admission are the same as those stated in the NTA notification for AISSEE 2024. The following lines elaborate on this:
67% of the seats are reserved for candidates who are residents of the state or territory in which the Sainik School is located. Other States and Union Territories are entitled to 33% of the seats (UT).
Seats will be reserved on the following lines within each Category of Home State/UT and Other States/UT quotas:
- 15% of seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC).
- 7.5% seats for Scheduled Tribe (ST).
- 27% for Other Backward Classes belonging to the NonCreamy layer (OBC-NCL) as per the central list.
Thus, on the aforementioned lines, 49.50% of the seats at Sainik School are reserved. Out of the remaining 50.50% of seats in the Home State/UT and Other States/UT quotas, 25% are reserved for wards of defence (serving personnel of the Indian Army/Indian Airforce/Indian Navy) and ex-servicemen.
In the “Other States/UT” quota, seats will be allotted in each category based on merit, with a maximum of 25% of vacancies in the category for any State or Union Territory.
E.g, if there are 10 seats available in the Other States/UT General Category, no more than three will be assigned to any one state, i.e. 25% of 10 or 2.5 rounded off to 3.
In each Sainik School, 10% of the total vacancies or 10 seats, whichever is greater, are reserved for girls in Class VI.
Reservation requirements New Sainik Schools (NSS)
There is no policy in place for the implementation of New Sainik Schools reservations. (DOMICILE always excluded). Reservations in the New Sainik School are made at the discretion of the school’s administration.
