History of Sainik School

Sainik Schools were established in India with the aim of preparing young boys academically, physically, and mentally for entry into the National Defence Academy (NDA) and other officer training academies. The first Sainik School was established in Satara, Maharashtra, in 1961. 

The idea was conceived by V.K. Krishna Menon, the then Minister of Defence, who believed that a school that combined academic education with military training would be an ideal way to prepare young boys for a career in the armed forces.

How to Apply at Sainik School

Typically, the Sainik Schools admissions process begins in October or November. The entrance exam is conducted in January for admission to classes 6 and 9. However, the entries for Class 11 are based on the marks of class 10 in the previous school. 

After passing the entrance exam, candidates are required to register for e-counselling in order to get admission followed by a medical examination before being chosen finally.

Academics at Sainik School

Sainik Schools’ curriculum is designed to provide a well-rounded education that emphasises academics, sports, and military training. The schools offer a variety of co-curricular pursuits, including music, art, and drama, and they adhere to the CBSE curriculum. Drill, shooting, and physical training are some of the exercises included in military training.
